The Diver Solution is aptly named as users can “slice and dice” their data in a completely free format with the Diver clients. As part of the solution multi dimensional models are built that are not cubes as other BI products create. Diver clients can start anywhere in the data and go anywhere else much like a scuba diver in a body of water. Competing products talk about building cubes and the user being able to “drill” from a high level to a detail level in a fast fashion.
In order to drill for oil or gas (say) one must know where to start and then drill into the earth uni-directionally whereas a scuba diver can swim freely to areas of interest. Similarly drilling in a BI scenario implies hierarchies must be followed in the cube in order to retrieve a piece of data. With The Diver Solution no hierarchies are built as the user can enter the model from any dimension point and go anywhere in the model very quickly.
The dimensions in a DI model are cross indexed across all of the dimensions and all numbers are summarised at every level this leads to a very fast build time and response time to all queries while performing ad hoc analysis or creating/viewing reports.
